The next day Mama had her baby out gathering food. She's very proud and protective.

Meet the Newest Member of our Family....
I went out to gather eggs a few days ago, before opening the door to the chicken house, I heard a "cheep, cheep" that wasn't there earlier. My mama hen only hatched one egg. Hopefully it's a hen and not a rooster.

Paper Roses
This is the bridal bouquet I made for a friend of mine. I didn't have a lot of time to put it together, but wanted something to go with her black and white wedding theme.
A Winter Surprise
I went to the chicken house to feed my chickens last Friday and could not believe my eyes. The moment I opened the door I was greeted by the sweetest sounds of "cheap, cheap, cheap." I looked down and saw the cutest little baby chick standing by its mama. Since it's been cold out, I lost track of who was doing what. I have 7 beautiful baby chicks. I'm so excited. I have been trying for twelve years to hatch baby chicks. At last! Bad thing is it's so cold outside! They are under a heat lamp, so that has to make them feel much warmer.

Never in all of my years of mushroom hunting have I found mushrooms this early. We've had some of these staked out since March 24th. I don't know which is more fun, hunting them or eating them? I've had people over the years tell me that mushrooms don't grow, however, we stake them every year and they grow for us. I'll be picking them today to clean them and get them prepared for a delicious meal. Yumm....my mouth is watering already.
Spring has Sprung
Life has been a flurry of activity this spring. We've had such an unusually mild winter and early spring. Everything around has been in bloom a month earlier than normal. Even our lilacs are in full bloom. Very strange weather indeed.
It seems that since we sprung ahead with our daylight time, I've been hurrying to catch up. Not enough hours in the day to get things done. I have my early spring garden planted and have a lot of spring projects already finished. I love this time of year. Everything is so alive and fresh. I love the fragrance in the air and the hearing the birds awakening in the morning. It's just a reminder that it's the simple things in life that brings great joy.
