Baby It's Cold Outside!

Winter has arrived in the Hoosier State. Wind chills are in the sub-digits this morning. At least it's not as windy as yesterday was. A lot to get done around the homestead today. Laundry, ironing and an attempt to clean and organize my craft area. Also, I'm baking dozens of cookies for the local Christmas Pageant this weekend.

Turtle Cake Recipe

As you can see, I'm still in the recipe section of my cleaning and organizing adventure. I came across another recipe that is so yummy! I just had to share!

1 box chocolate cake mix (mix and bake as directed on pkg- only make sure to halve the batter and bake in two separate pans. When cake has finished baking, remove from oven and add 1 c chocolate chips/ 1 c nuts to each cake.)

Melt one 14 oz. pkg of caramels

1/2 c. canned milk

1 1/4 sticks of butter

Slightly cool and spread over both halves of cake. Stack cake and bake 2 minutes.

Grandma's Walnut Cake

While organizing my cookbooks, I ran into a neat old book that was my Great Grandma's. I had forgotten that I had it stashed away. Here is a recipe for "Caramel Walnut Cake". I thought it'd be a good way to use the walnuts that I've collected this fall.

Caramel Walnut Cake

1/2 c butter 2 eggs 1 c. sugar 3/4 c milk

2/3 c. walnut meats 2 t. orange flavoring 2 1/4 c flour 2 1/4 t b.powder

1/4 t. salt

Cream shortening, adding sugar gradually. When light and fluffy add well beaten eggs.

Blend thoroughly. Stir in walnut meats and orange flavor then add dry ingredients alternating with milk. Bake 25 minutes.... She didn't specify the temperature of the oven. She baked the old fashioned way, with a wood burning stove.

Getting Ready for Winter

It was a gorgeous weekend here in the Hoosier state. We took advantage of the warm temps and got a lot of outdoor work accomplished.

Leap of Faith

Finally, I've found the courage to take the plunge into blog land. I have journaled for the last twenty years of my life and have enjoyed reading other people's blogs, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have a blog of my own. It's kind of intimidating, but I'm sure that I will get used to it. I enjoy making new friends and so I'm anticipating good things to come from this blog.
